Why
Sunflowers and pinecones.
Each sunflower seed sits 137.5° from the last. Each pinecone turns in spirals of 8 and 13. Same numbers, every time: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13.

Why code The piece is grown, not drawn. Your seed and the Fibonacci numbers decide its pattern, the time of day sets its light, and it lays itself out to fit your screen. Why squares The code draws Fibonacci squares, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, each new one set against the last so they grow outward, with a quarter arc in each that comes close to the golden spiral. How many fit follows your screen.
Gold at midday, for the flower that grows toward the sun. Young sunflowers follow the sun by day and turn back east at night. In bloom, they stop turning and face the morning sun.

Garden Signal
Your turn. Grow one. Every visit plants a fresh seed.
Each daily seed is 1 in 4.3 billion. The seed picks a run of Fibonacci numbers, and each number grows as a square, lit by your time of day.
CodeFormDetails: one share a day. Reach 55 within 63 days, so up to 8 days can be missed.
Today grows one piece. Your days grow The Golden Turn.
Your piece
Every visit grows a new piece from one seed, the number at the top. Names repeat, like a species; the number regrows this exact piece. Its code is your seed's Fibonacci digits. Its form is each number, as a square. The same seed always grows the same piece, fitted to your screen. Its share link shows that piece to anyone.
The same numbers are found in sunflower and pinecone spirals: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8…
Here, a new Garden Signal grows from that sequence and a fresh seed every visit. This one grew from your visit. Regrow this
Same seed, same piece. Share the link and anyone can see it.
Lit by the time of day it grew. Four lights, morning, midday, evening and night, set by your clock.
The Signals are separate, finished artworks by @RarePatterns (opens in a new tab), released one every two weeks from here on. Your piece speaks their language: patterns from a rule, light from the time of day, made in code.

The Golden Turn
Come back tomorrow. Your days grow The Golden Turn.
Day 1 is the gold center, the Origin Eye. Each new day adds a pane, 137.5° from the last, like seeds in a sunflower. At 55 days, it blooms whole.
Because each pane grows from a 1-in-4.3-billion daily seed and your time of day, every piece is unique.

Your days are kept only in this browser, on this device. Clearing site data or a private window erases them, and Safari may clear them after a week without a visit. Your days stay in this browser unless you choose Back up my garden, open Keep on another device, or open your private link. After that, each day you grow a piece here is added to the backup. Saving or sharing a piece, or posting your Golden Turn, sends only seeds and the time of day, never dates.
Your days are kept in this browser and backed up on this site. If Safari erases them here, they come back on your next visit. If you clear cookies or switch browsers, your garden link brings them back, so copy it now from Keep on another device.
Saves your days to this site. If this browser forgets them, they return on your next visit, and a private link brings them back on any browser. It sets one cookie holding a random code, nothing else.
Backup isn’t available right now. Your days are still saved in this browser, so you can try again later.
Your garden is saved under a random code in a cookie this site sets. If this browser loses your days, the page checks with this site once, sending only that cookie, so they can come back. It stores only the dates you grew a piece here, with each piece's seed and light, and when it last changed: no name, email or IP address, and none of it is shared with anyone or used for ads or analytics. (The site counts page visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies.) Anyone with your garden link can open and add to it, so keep it to yourself. It is kept until you ask us to delete it at hello@rarepatternsignal.com.
It holds each day's seed and light, no dates, so anyone can regrow your garden.

About RarePatterns
The Signals are finished artworks by @RarePatterns (opens in a new tab). He trained as a painter in college. He chooses the idea, the palette and the sound for every Signal. AI writes the code, and every decision is his. Fragment Lock came first. Velocity, suggested by @solrious (opens in a new tab) in Signal Origins, is next and in the studio now. Golden Angle is saved for later in the series. Then one Signal every two weeks.
Every Signal is generative art, made in code, and every frame grows from the code. Some Signals grow straight from the sunflower's numbers. Golden Angle sets every seed 137.5° from the last. Others follow their own code, like Fragment Lock. The site's music ends on the chord of Fragment Lock, the Genesis piece.
Each Garden Signal grows from the numbers in sunflower and pinecone spirals, with a fresh seed every visit, so come back and another grows.
Each Signal gets its own palette, chosen by eye before the code is written, the way a traditional painting begins with a limited palette set out for its subject. It's the practice he trained in: a few colors, mixed for value and light. Fragment Lock holds to orange and black; Golden Angle works chiefly in black, sienna, warm yellow and orange.
Golden Angle
For years, RarePatterns lived among sunflowers and pine trees at his last home. Each sunflower seed sits about 137.5° from the last, and each pinecone turns in spirals of 8 and 13. Golden Angle is how he keeps that place: he guides the work, and AI writes the code. · Signal page →
Golden Angle and the Garden Signal share the same math: Golden Angle's code sets each sunflower seed at the golden angle, about 137.5°, from the last, and the Garden Signal grows from Fibonacci numbers, the same numbers its spirals count. Black is the dark it grows from, sienna the earth, yellow the sunflower, orange the low sun.
Fragment Lock came first and is built differently. Some Signals grow from the sunflower's numbers. Others follow their own code.
